Naboborsho
Date: April 14, 2010
Time: 7:00 PM
Venue: Star Theatre

Noboborsho (Bengali new year) is one defining event in Bengalidom that has been able to hold on its own in this age of strong invasion of cosmopolitan and western cultures. It is one occasion when a Bengali becomes more Bengali in the way he spends the day. And it applies the way he likes experiencing a cultural programme in the Noboborsho evening. A Noboborsho event is thus quintessential Bengali in nature and feel. Besides being entertaining it can make one reorient himself in the art and culture of Bengal that has a rich heritage to boast of. Tobu Mone Rekho A tribute to Rabindranath Tagore and his contribution to the cultural transition of Bengalis on 150 years of his birth anniversary through a Rabindrasangeet recital by Pramita Mullick with commentary by Suchita Roy Choudhury and actress Chaiti Ghoshal. Rongo Rosh A dramatized reading of old Bengali sex comedies, ‘chutkis’ (jokes) and farces by Jagannath Basu and Urmimala Basu. Tickling the funny bone and creating an hour of rip-roaring laughter, this segment will be extremely entertaining and perfectly balance out the audience experience coming just after ‘Babuani Bibiani’. Chironton Swarnajug A musical tribute to the golden years of Bengali music featuring the best of master composers Salil Choudhury, Sudhin Dasgupta, Nachiketa Ghosh, Abhijit Banerjee and others by Calcutta Ensemble. Babuana Bibiani A unique marriage of fashion and music reflecting the wardrobe of the Bengali milieu down the century with a collage of songs used in 19th century plays in Kolkata (popularly known as ‘baithaki’ songs. The outfits will be done by eminent designer Sharbari Dutta and Shampa Das. Debjit Bandopadhyay and Riddhi Bandopadhyay, who are famous for this genre of songs, will do the musical representation.
